One of the most frustrating and frequent problems our clients have is that their current house is closing on the same day as they are going to receive the keys to their new house. However, the client is unsure at what time they will be handed the keys to their new home.

Due to this uncertainty, the movers can’t begin packing and loading as they will have nowhere to unload, and could end up spending the entire day on one project, which is not financially viable for a client or practical for the movers.

The biggest challenge with these kinds of moves is that realtors and lawyers tend to tell clients that they will get the keys at unrealistic times. However, over ninety percent of the time, all homes do not end up closing until after 3 pm and much closer to 5 pm.

The Solution: Moving during the second half of the day.

Over the last few years, we have observed that most clients are handed the keys to the new house a little after midday. If your moving-out and moving-in dates are the same, it's important to plan your move accordingly. Based on our experiences, we believe that the best thing to do is to book your movers for the second half of the day.

As the second move of the day, the moving company will do their best to get the truck to your current home between 11 am and 2 pm. This will enable the movers to load the truck, and hopefully, you will have the keys by the time they are done loading or shortly after that. This way you are not paying the hourly rate almost all movers charge as you wait for the key.
